Web + Digital Application Developer

WEB + DIGITAL APPLICATION DEVELOPER

Overview
The Mattress Factory is seeking an experienced, creative and forward-thinking Web + Digital Application Developer to work with the museum’s current online presence and drive the next generation of MF digital initiatives. For more than 30 years, the Mattress Factory has pushed artistic boundaries, and this newly created staff position will help the museum continue to break new ground into the digital future.

The Web + Digital Application Developer will also be responsible for carrying out the technical requirements of the museum’s digital collections project, p(art)icipate: an active archive. This individual will work under the direction of the Marketing Manager, and facilitate communication between the Mattress Factory and third parties to implement the project. On an ongoing basis, he/she will monitor, maintain and improve the project, in addition to cultivating the museum’s robust existing online presence.

Requirements
The candidate will possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science or related field and experience with systems development. Previous experience with PHP and Apache required. Understanding of web-based APIs also required.

The candidate must be resourceful, forward-thinking, and familiar with open-source development frameworks. A hacker ethic is preferred and an interest in art & culture is a plus.

Responsibilities

- Adapt & optimize the museum’s current Web site for growth into next generation
- Work with Archivist to digitize physical and analog material
- Monitor outsourcing of digitizing when necessary
- Work with all parties involved to integrate archive content into compelling digital experiences
- Coordinate regular meetings of project participants
- Monitor project implementation in accord with Schedule of Completion
- Monitor user activity and trouble shoot when necessary
- Gather and organize data for project evaluation
- Assist Project Manager with project dissemination to include: creation of developer resources (Wiki), speaking publicly about the project, preparing presentations and developing publications
