Volunteer

Online Volunteer Application

MF volunteers have the opportunity to gain exposure to the workings of a unique museum of contemporary art and contribute valuable visitor services to a nonprofit institution. Volunteer applications are accepted at all times. We keep all applications on file, and will contact applicants with the required skills, interests and availability when positions become available.
Qualified candidates should posses a love and appreciation of art, a flexible attitude for dealing with the public, basic computer skill-including familiarity with the internet-and an understanding that reliability is critical.

Volunteer Positions

Front House Volunteer
Time:
Tuesday-Friday 12pm-2pm
Stipend:
Various levels of membership
Position:
Work with the front house team to learn both the front desk and shop positions. This volunteer will be in charge of those areas for a few hours each week in order to provide the staff with breaks. Must have good customer service skills, must be flexible, and must have cash handling experience.

Volunteer Administrative Assistant
Time:
Flexible hours (Monday-Friday)
Stipend:
Various levels of membership
Position:
Work with the Operations Director and the Administrative Assistant on basic office responsibilities including: answering phones, taking messages, filing, copying, typing, mailings, etc. Assisting with other administrative projects as deemed necessary. Duties may include running errands, such as to the post office or to pick up supplies. Mileage will be reimbursed.

Volunteer Exhibition Installer
Time:
One week before opening and after closing
Stipend:
Various levels of membership
Position:
Work with the Exhibition Coordinator, Owen Smith, to install and de-install new installation art by artists in the Mattress Factory’s residency program. This position is sporadic, and our need for volunteers depends on our show schedule.

Volunteer Membership Assistant
Time:
Flexible hours (Monday-Friday)
Stipend:
Various levels of membership
Position:
Work with the Membership Coordinator on coordinating mailings for new members, renewing memberships, coordinating donated memberships, membership filing as well as other duties deemed appropriate by the development department.

Special Events Volunteer
Time:
Flexible hours (Weekends and weeknights)
Stipend:
Various levels of membership
Position:
The Special Events Volunteer works in the galleries providing visitor services to patrons during special events. Volunteers are expected to engage patrons in discussion about the new exhibitions and the museum’s permanent collection, while enjoying our unique programming. Volunteers will also be invited to attend exclusive staff events such as guided tours with curators.

ARTLab Volunteer
Time:
1pm-4pm every third Saturday of the month
Stipend:
Various levels of membership
Position:
ARTLab is an opportunity for visitors to create their own work of art. Visitors are encouraged to make something collaboratively or independently. ARTLab volunteer work with a Museum Educator to assist the visitors in experimenting with materials, tools, and concepts. There are two volunteer positions available for each activity.
